Just In: Cincinnati Bengals formally announce star receiver’s re-signing just now….

The Cincinnati Bengals have officially announced the re-signing of star wide receiver Tee Higgins in a Monday afternoon press release after Higgins signed his franchise .

It’s been a long road with Higgins, with the wide receiver requesting a trade on two separate occasions during this offseason and a long term deal reportedly not having been discussed between the two sides in over a year.

The team used the franchise tag on Higgins and until this week, Higgins had not signed it and was not participating in any of the team’s offseason program. Now that he’s signed the tender, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor says he’s excited for what’s ahead this season.

“I’m excited to move forward with Tee,” Taylor said. “He’s done a great job handling his situation, and we are happy to get him back in the fold so we can start working toward a great 2024 season. The locker room will be excited to have him back around.”

Higgins, who missed five games in 2023 due to hamstring and rib injuries, is now due to hit unrestricted free agency after the 2024 season. He will make $21.8 million on the franchise tag.Cincinnati Bengals Wide Receiver Tee Higgins Defends Agent on Social Media

The phrasing of “one-year contract” from the team makes it seem evident that a long term deal will likely not be reached. With Joe Burrow already getting paid and Ja’Marr Chase due for an extension as well, paying everyone their market value is simply not realistic with the way the receiver market is.

It seems like the Bengals are going all in on 2024 with their entire core back in the fold for at least one more season.
