Terry Justus: five-star major Priority Georgia football player abandons his USC commitment in order to resume recruiting
Five-star rising senior DL from Manchester High Justus Terry once pledged to play for the University of Georgia. He has now committed to play in California for USC.
Justus Terry, a 5-star defensive end, is the latest addition to Sentell’s Intel representative regarding Georgia football recruiting. According to the 247Sports Composite and The On3 Industry Ranking, he is the No. 2 DL in the country and the seventh best prospect overall for 2025.
This morning, Justus Terry made a significant choice.
Less than sixteen hours before, Isaiah Gibson, a fellow Middle Georgia All-American defender, made a similar choice.
The former UGA commit and five-star defensive lineman announced on Wednesday morning that he is reversing his March
Back then, that was shocking. Anyone who understands the distance between Middle Georgia and Los Angeles was not surprised by this development. That’s not taking into account how well UGA has produced players since Kirby Smart moved to Athens, who fills Terry’s position.
As a recruit with no public ties to any school, the nation’s No. 2 defensive end will now face tough competition this weekend from another SEC powerhouse.
The news will not only worry USC fans across the country, but it will also make DawgNation bark even harder. This is likely due to Terry’s extensive recruiting visits to UGA, which exceed the total number of schools he has visited.
The star student from Manchester High has long been a top priority for UGA in this class. That was in January 2023, long before he made his first commitment to UGA.
Terry has informed DawgNation that Tray Scott, the defensive line coach at Georgia, has stated that Terry’s recruitment will be a “marathon” and that the Bulldogs will support him every step of the way until he signs his scholarship offer in the class of 2025.
His choice today confirms what appeared likely only a few months after he switched from UGA to USC in March.
Terry had visited USC on an unofficial visit and returned as a USC commit after having committed to UGA for roughly 14 months. Gibson took the same choice during that same recruiting weekend.
Now, both of them have reneged on those promises in consecutive days.
After the previous season, the 6-foot-5, 270-pound Terry changed the shape of his body. He has changed his weight and lost about fifteen to twenty pounds from the weight he played at in his junior year.
This past weekend, he was only on an official visit to FSU. Earlier this month, over the weekend of May 31–June 2, he paid UGA his official visit. Terry will not be traveling to USC this weekend as planned for his OV visit.
Terry announced to Chad Simmons of On3.com that he will now be traveling to Alabama this coming weekend on business.
Earlier this month, the incoming senior also paid Miami an official visit.
With others in the running, the Bulldogs should be considered the front-runners to win Terry’s commitment again in light of this decision. Not to be overlooked are Alabama, FSU, and Miami as potential contenders.
The key test of his relationship with USC was to observe whether he made the official visit on his second trip there this summer.
It appears that he will remain in the South to play collegiate football and is not planning to travel back out west.
The recruitment process has become even more intriguing.
