The Warriors have extended an offer to Thompson for a two-year contract, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN on The Hoop Collective podcast. On June 30, Thompson will formally become an unrestricted free agent.
“We’ve heard that this is a two-year contract,” McMahon informed Brian Windhorst, his co-host. “In certain cases, the issue is more about years than money.”
Thompson, though, is searching for more. The 34-year-old sharpshooter is seeking a contract that would last at least three years, according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole earlier this week.
It looks like Thompson will be entering free agency for the first time in his career unless the two parties can come to an agreement within the next week. With 17.9 points from 43.2% of the field and 38.7% from three-point range, he had a strong 2023–24 campaign.
Although Thompson isn’t the same two-way All-Star player he once was, most NBA teams could use his 34-year-old three-point shooting ability for the upcoming season and beyond.
