Newcastle have just offered cash-plus-player bid to sign ‘outstanding’ £40m defender
Newcastle United have made a big move in the transfer market as they try and tempt one of the most in-demand defenders to the northeast.
The Magpies are stepping up their attempts to the strengthen the squad and are already being linked with a move for Everton striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin
The England forward has emerged as the number one target in attack and Eddie Howe is hoping PIF can get the deal over the line.
However, another Premier League player is now on their radar and after West Ham had a bid rejected, Newcastle have now made their own move.
Newcastle offer player-plus-cash deal for Max Kilman
According to a report from The Telegraph, Newcastle have made a move for Wolves star Kilman as they bid to strengthen the defence.
It’s reported that after West Ham saw a £25m offer for Kilman rejected, that Newcastle have now gone in with their own bid, which is also likely to be rejected.
Newcastle’s bid differs, though.
It’s suggested that rather than straight cash, the Mags have offered money and Elliott Anderson in a bid to tempt Wolves to the table.
Still, the offer is likely to be turned down with the Mags needing to up things if they want Kilman signed.
Wolves value Kilman
Kilman an ‘outstanding’ signing for Newcastle
If Newcastle get this one over the line then it’s a real statement of intent to show they are serious ahead of next season.
Kilman has been one of the standout young defenders in recent seasons and he’s been lauded for those performances by Conor Coady as well.
“I thought he was outstanding, but I would expect nothing else from him. He’s brilliant to have around and is a brilliant professional,” Coady is quoted as saying previously.
Kilman, then, could well give Newcastle that added presence at the back and alongside Sven Botman, could well form one of the league’s top partnerships.
at at least £40m and have turned down offers in the past.
The defender is also wanted by Tottenham, while the report from The Telegraph here claims Manchester United are also keen.
Newcastle may need to pay £37m to sign player Carlo Ancelotti thinks is ‘fantastic’
Newcastle United appear to be making progress on securing what would be their second signing of the summer transfer window.
The Magpies have already welcomed Lloyd Kelly to St James’ Park following the end of his contract at Bournemouth, and it appears that they are working on signing another Premier League player.
Alexander Isak definitely established himself as one of the best strikers in the division last season, but there is a question mark over what the future holds for Callum Wilson.
And it appears that Eddie Howe has identified the player he wants to replace Wilson with, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin attracting interest.
Newcastle may need to pay £37 million to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Newcastle are reportedly confident of signing Calvert-Lewin, with the striker not planning to extend his Everton contract, which expires at the end of next season.
The Times is also reporting that Newcastle have made contact about a potential move for Calvert-Lewin, who has been offered a new deal at Goodison Park.
With the England international not looking to sign an extension, the report claims that Everton are looking for a fee of around £37 million for the striker. It is not clear whether Newcastle would be willing to pay that sort of figure.
It is added that Wilson is wanted by clubs in the Saudi Pro League and MLS.
A gamble from the Magpies
Newcastle signing Calvert-Lewin for that sort of fee definitely has to be considered a gamble, as the ‘fantastic‘ 27-year-old has struggled to stay fit over the last few years.
He scored 29 Premier League goals across the 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns, but he has found the back of the net 14 times in the three seasons since.
Injuries have definitely played a big part in his struggles, but the Magpies will hope that they can get him back to his very best should he head to Tyneside.
If he does sign for £37 million, Calvert-Lewin will have a real point to prove.
Newcastle now confident of landing striker who Pep Guardiola hailed ‘one of the best’
Newcastle United are now eyeing another summer signing at the other end of the pitch having already acquired Lloyd Kelly.
The top end of the pitch for Newcastle may be one of the main priorities for Eddie Howe this summer.
Callum Wilson‘s future at the club may remain a talking point with the striker having received reported interest from the likes of Saudi Arabia already.
One man Newcastle will be keen to keep around this summer is Alexander Isak with the Sweden international enjoying his second campaign in England.
Interest has grown in the Newcastle talisman but TBR Football understands the Toon are keen to tie Isak down to a new deal this summer.
However, it seems as if Newcastle may be keen to add to the striker from Sweden this summer as they are now pushing along with a deal to sign another forward.
Newcastle ‘pushing’ deal along for Premier League striker
Newcastle got their summer window up and running with the free signing of Lloyd Kelly – a player who Howe is very familiar with.
And it seems as if the Toon want to keep the shrewd business going this summer with the signing of a striker who has now racked up 213 appearances in the Premier League.
Exits are still going to be needed over the coming weeks at St James’ Park but this is not distracting Newcastle from bolstering their squad after their seventh-placed finish.
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are now pushing to secure the services of Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.
The Magpies are said to have held a long-standing interest in the former England international for some time now.
Calvert-Lewin only has one year remaining on his deal at Goodison Park which may make a deal more accessible for Howe and co.
Although a fee is still said to being discussed between the two sides, Luke Edwards has said there is confidence a deal will be struck.
What Pep Guardiola said about Dominic Calvert Lewin
Calvert-Lewin is another player – like Wilson – who has had his issues in recent years when it comes to injuries.
However, he has shown in the past – also like Wilson – just what he is capable of providing in the Premier League.
And he has earned some considerable praise from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola in the past who hailed him one of the best headers of the ball.
“Calvert-Lewin is one of the best headers I have ever seen in jumping and flicking the ball,” Guardiola told the Liverpool Echo back in 2019.
Clearly, his injury record will concern a lot of fans, but it is a gamble which it seems Newcastle are keen to take this summer.
