AFC Contender to Recruit Former Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver on a One-Year Contract

An ex-Cowboys receiver is currently in motion.

Wide receiver Michael Gallup, a free agent, intends to sign a one-year contract worth up to $3 million with the Las Vegas Raiders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Gallup, 28, has played for the Cowboys for all six of his NFL seasons. Dallas selected the Colorado State University product in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
In his rookie season, he played in every game, and in 2019, he had a career year. His career-best numbers from that year still stand: he had 113 targets, 66 catches, 1,107 receiving yards, and 6 touchdowns.

With 59 receptions for 843 yards and five touchdowns in 2020, Gallup continued to have a fantastic season and was emerging as a major threat in the Cowboys’ passing game. Sadly, Gallup went on to have a dismal 2021. Due to a calf injury, he missed the first two months of the season. In January 2022, he tore his ACL.

Gallup was able to return to the field in October after the Cowboys signed him to a five-year, $57.5 million extension in March, despite the injury. Sadly, he was unable to produce the same level of output as before the injury; he only caught 39 passes for 424 yards and four touchdowns.

Gallup had another poor year in 2023, catching 34 passes for 418 yards and two touchdowns. Gallup was not able to be the guy for Dallas even though the team lacked a legitimate No. 2 option behind CeeDee Lamb. He trailed tight end Jake Ferguson, wide receiver Brandin Cooks, and quarterback Lamb as the team’s top four receivers.

Even though the Gallup deal wasn’t entirely successful, the Cowboys did give themselves a release clause at the end of the 2024 campaign. Attempting to trade their previous third-round pick, Gallup was cut by the Cowboys this offseason. Although the change freed up $9.5 million in cap space, $8.7 million will be deducted from the 2025 salary cap.

Now that he’s in Las Vegas, Gallup will start over and join a loaded receiver room that includes Tre Tucker, Jakobi Meyers, and Davante Adams, among others. Along with Michael Mayer, the team recently selected Brock Bowers in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft with the 13th overall pick, the Raiders have two other talented tight ends in Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer.Dallas Cowboys WR Brandin Cooks ready for big second year with team - Blogging The Boys

The Cowboys are still in the midst of a quiet offseason in which they have suffered far more losses than victories. They recently brought back their former All-Pro running back, Ezekiel Elliott, and signed veteran Royce Freeman, their two biggest additions in the running back room.

Lamb, Cooks, Jalen Tolbert, and KaVontae Turpin make up the Cowboys’ wide receiver room right now, along with a ton of raw talent.
