Hoosiers get commitment from Georgia DB Zacharey Smith
Georgia prospect Zacharey Smith announced today that he has pledged to the Indiana football program following his official visit with the Hoosiers. The 6-foot, 170-pound standout from Hapeville Charter Career Academy in Atlanta is the second cornerback commit for head coach Curt Cignetti and his staff in the 2025 recruiting class.
Smith, who had been committed to Pittsburgh, chose IU over the Panthers as well as offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, SMU, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Akron, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Marshall, South Florida, Temple, and Austin Peay.
Smith made his first trip to Bloomington in March for a spring practice and he spoke to Peegs.com about why he was so interested in the Hoosiers.
“The coaching staff and the love they showed me compared to other programs,” Smith said when asked what stands out about IU. “My relationship with the staff has been great.”
The Atlanta native said the Indiana staff is very impressed with what he brings to the cornerback position.
“They said that they love my ball skills,” he said about the message from the IU coaches.
Last fall Smith recorded 19 tackles, three interceptions including one he returned for a touchdown, and two tackles for loss. He also plays on offense as a receiver and as a returner on special teams for Hapeville Charter Academy.
