Sad News: 2 key players depart Tar Heels just now…….

Reuniting with former UNC basketball teammates in the NBA Summer League
Standout basketball player Armando Bacot from UNC and one-year Tar Heel Walker Kessler are on the Utah Jazz Summer League roster.

Walker Kessler is back in the July Summer League uniform for the Utah Jazz, despite having played in the NBA for two years. First-year pro Armando Bacot, who went undrafted despite becoming the Tar Heels’ all-time leading rebounder and double-double producer, will be playing alongside him. Bacot was a former teammate at UNC. On Thursday, he signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Jazz.

Not to mention the 7-foot Kyle Filipowski of Duke, the No. 32 overall pick in last week’s NBA Draft, who recently emerged as a star for UNC’s bitter rival.

Naturally, Walker Kessler, now 22 years old, did not stay a Tar Heel after playing as Armando Bacot’s (now 24) backup center during his freshman year in 2020–21. After transferring to Auburn, he played a standout season for the Tigers under Bruce Pearl before being selected by the Jazz with the 22nd overall pick in 2022.

Over his two years in Utah, Kessler has participated in 138 games, making 62 starts, and has averaged 8.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
