Florida State football accomplished an undefeated regular season and a conference championship during the 2023 campaign. With the high level of success, it is typical to see several contributors take their talents to the NFL.
Defensive backs such as Jarrian Jones, Akeem Dent, and Renardo Green accomplished their lifelong dreams of becoming professional football players. Position coach Patrick Surtain Sr. has his work cut out as he attempts to replenish the position room.
Surtain Sr. capitalized on acquiring four prospects in the 2024 recruiting class with Charles Lester III, Jamari Howard, Cai Bates, and Ricky Knight III. However, the Seminoles’ 4-2-5 defensive scheme requires that Florida State utilizes several defensive backs.
As I always say, you can never have too many defensive back prospects since defensive coordinator Adam Fuller uses them in many ways. The Seminoles already have four-star cornerback Gregory “Zae” Thomas from American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the fold.
I expect Florida State to pick up at least three defensive backs in the class. On Tuesday night, the Seminoles got another talented recruit to commit to the program in three-star safety Max Redmon from Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm, Florida.
I would advise you not to stress yourself over Redmon’s three-star ranking. He reminds me quite a bit of former Class of 2021 three-star prospect and current Florida State safety Shyheim Brown who is a bit underrated and was used at different positions in high school.
When you turn on the film for Redmon, you will notice a versatile recruit (where he is used at safety, linebacker, defensive end, and wide receiver), who covers well in space, is not afraid to run downhill to make a tackle, and showcases a high level of speed.
Florida State could have a hidden gem on the defensive side of the football that defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. could develop into something special.
