JUST IN: Montreal Canadiens just signed a key player due to…..

The reasons behind the Canadiens’ potential signing of Max Pacioretty
One of the few well-known players still in free agency limbo, waiting for an offer, is former Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty. The NHL offseason is drawing to a close.

The veteran winger, who has missed the majority of the previous three seasons due to injury, showed last season that he still had it in him with a successful comeback campaign as a member of the Washington Capitals.

In light of this, there are several reasons why he might want to rejoin the team that originally drafted him in 2007.
A bargain for the Canadiens

The Canadiens, who have a lot of cap space, focused on the draft and possible trades on July 1 rather than making any significant additions.

But signing a player like Pacioretty would probably prove to be very inexpensive and involve very little risk.

The 35-year-old Pacioretty recently signed a $4 million, one-year contract with a $2 million cap hit.

Considering his current position in his career, he probably will be searching for another short-term contract that is reasonable, something the rebuilding Habs can afford to take on.

Complement the lineup
With Sean Monahan and Tanner Pearson having recently left, it is clear that Montreal’s forward lines are lacking in two key areas: veteran presence and secondary scoring.

Adding Pacioretty, who led the Habs from 2015 to 2018, would satisfy those two requirements.

His ability to score would also help Montreal’s power play, which finished the previous season with an efficiency rate of 17.46%, near the bottom of the league.

One of the Canadiens’ most reliable producers in the 2010s was Max Pacioretty.

With 668 points collected in 902 NHL games, the Connecticut native is a six-time 30-goal scorer and has scored 60+ points with Montreal on five different occasions.
Even though he was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights, ending his unhappy time in Montreal, the Habs have since completely reorganized their management group, giving him a chance to redeem himself.

There would also be a lot less pressure on Pacioretty this time around, even though in his prime wearing the “C” and navigating the pressure of the Montreal media seemed to wear him down.
