The Tampa Bay Lightning have come to an agreement with a player they recently acquired.

On Thursday, the team signed defenseman J.J. Moser to a two-year contract. The deal carries a $3.375 million AAV through the 2025-26 season.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, who was the first to report the signing, says Moser’s salary will be $2.7 million during the 2024-25 campaign, and $4.05 million the following year.

Moser made his way to Tampa Bay in the trade that saw the Utah Hockey Club receive Mikhail Sergachev. The Lightning also received forward Conor Geekie and a pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Moser had filed for arbitration, something that had to be taken care of by the Bolts following the transaction. The Biel, Switzerland native was coming off the final year of his three-year contract that he signed with the Arizona Coyotes back in August 2021. That deal has an AAV of $925,000.

In breaking into the pro ranks, Moser spent most of his career in the NHL. In fact, after splitting time with the Coyotes’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners, in 2021-22, he played the rest of his tenure with the big club. Moser scored a career-high seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points during the 2022-23 campaign, before posting five goals and 21 assists for 26 points this past season, with a plus/minus of -5.

In three seasons in Arizona, the 24-year-old has appeared in 205 games, scoring 16 goals and 56 assists with a -27 rating. Moser has played an average of 20:22 of ice time thus far.

Prior to coming to North America, Moser put himself on the NHL radar with his efforts playing for his hometown team, EHC Biel-Bienne, in the National League. In over two seasons, he played in 133 games, scoring 11 goals and 36 assists.
