REENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The ECU baseball team fell to Evansville 4-1 as it opened its NCAA regional tournament at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Friday in Greenville.
Purple Aces Kenton Deverman held the Pirates to one run on three hits in eight innings of work.
The Pirates got a solid five innings from Ethan Norby who allowed a sac fly and solo home run. The Pirates got down 2-0.
ECU got back into the game when Carter Cunningham broke up a no hitter with a solo home run in the 4th inning. It was 2-1 to the 9th.
Evansville got a two run single in the 9th inning to add on some insurance and go up 4-1.
The Pirates move into the elimination round against the loser of Wake Forest and VCU. They will play on Saturday at noon.

In his first year, a year ago, ECU finished 16-17 and they are off to a 9-8 start this season.
The Pirates will be hosting North Texas Wednesday night, Jan. 17, 2024, in their next game.
Wake Forest is the No. 1 team in the poll, ECU is in at No. 11, Duke is 12th, N.C. State is in at No. 13, UNC is No. 15, Coastal Carolina is 18th and South Carolina rounds out the Top 25.
