Raptors president Ujiri on Sasha Vezenkov decision: ‘Hopefully, soon’
Masai Ujiri called Vezenkov a phenomenal player and expressed his wish to solve the dispute between the club, the player, and Olympiacos soon.
With the situation between Sasha Vezenkov, Toronto Raptors, and Olympiacos Piraeus still undetermined, Raptors president Masai Ujiri addressed the issue on Saturday during the NBA Summer League.
Ujiri was a guest in the commentator booth during the Raptors’ game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, which Toronto easily won 94-69.
“We’re still having that conversation. He had a tough time in the NBA last year. We are trying to figure it out,” Ujiri said. “The right decision will be made.”
“I think he’s a phenomenal player. Had a tough season last season, those things happen. Great shooter,” Ujiri continued. “Whatever happens, we’re going to make the best out of this situation. We support him in every way, and we know where our team is going. So, hopefully soon.”
Vezenkov has already reportedly reached a five-year agreement with Olympiacos, and the only hurdle separating him from returning to the EuroLeague is his current deal with the Raptors.
Toronto has so far been adamant that the Bulgarian forward will not be let go easily.
Jurica Golemac: Building a team from scratch in Dubai and Panathinaikos regret
Jurica Golemac, head coach of BC Dubai, explains to BasketNews how the roster of the newly-established club will be built. The Croatian tactician lays down the reasons why he was chosen to lead the project, delves into his relationship with Sani Becirovic, and addresses a mistake he made during his playing career.
“We’re watching video of players, getting as much information as we can. It’s hard to get all 12 players right, but we’re trying to minimize the risk,” Golemac told BasketNews in an interview that took place in Athens in late June.
Dubai Basketball will take part in the 16-team ABA League, which runs from September to May. They will compete against some of Europe’s top clubs, such as Partizan Mozzart Bet and KK Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, which clinched the coveted title last month.
While the Dubai outfit will be playing their matches away in Europe, the emirate will see some top-class action during the home games. All 15 teams will come to Dubai, allowing fans to watch some of the continent’s prominent names showcase their talents at the Coca-Cola Arena during the 9-month season.
In building the new roster, Golemac can take some comfort in the fact that there’s no real need to speed things up
