Three of the four Beatles have new releases out today in a move that’s sure to excite–and perhaps even frustrate–die-hard followers of The Beatles and the individual members. The only one of the four who hasn’t shared anything new today is Paul McCartney.
The three musicians all drop special products for Record Store Day 2024. The event sees many top-tier artists producing never-before-heard titles or collector’s editions of older material and selling it only in independent record stores. The entire effort is to help those kinds of stores, which have been hurting for many years, bring in some business.
Two of George Harrison’s earliest solo albums are being offered for the first time on a new format. Both Electronic Sound and Wonderwall Music are now available on zoetrope picture disc, which collectors usually love. Both are limited to 3,400 copies.
John Lennon also has two new offerings for superfans. His new EP is being sold on both a black LP and a more colorful one. The short set, which features just four songs, is apparently a teaser for the Ultimate Edition of the same title, which is slated to arrive later this year.
Mind Games was Lennon’s fourth solo album. Originally released in 1973, the experimental project hit the top 10 on the Billboard 200, and now, half a century later, new takes on some of the tunes featured on that title are being sold again. The Mind Games EPs are limited in quantity, though not even the Record Store Day website could explain exactly how many copies were pressed.
