TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Residents along Ford St. in Maumee say they’re concerned over a project that will rip up their sidewalks for a multi-use path.
Celeste Roberts said her elderly mother has lived in her home along Ford St. since the 60s. She said she is against the project.
A city spokesperson told 13 Action News the 10-foot path will be built in the public right of way along the east side of the street. It’s already built along the Anthony Wayne Trail and the next phase will take the path down Ford St. until West Broadway St. to connect to Side Cut Metropark.
“We already have the parade down here, we’re part of the parade route,” she said. “Which is okay a few times a year, we don’t want it 365.”
Construction was supposed to begin this summer but it’s been pushed back to spring 2025. The city needs to move some utility poles first.
An informational meeting was scheduled for July 16, but it was canceled by the city. A spokesperson told 13 Action News that the meeting will be rescheduled for a later time. They plan to walk through the proposed site before construction begins.
