League One Clubs See Bids Rejected For 25 Goal Newport County Star
Newport County star Will Evans has attracted interest from League One and the Championship this summer, with owner Huw Jenkins confirming bids have already been rejected.
The Welsh side are preparing for another season in League Two, with their owner keen to drastically reshape the squad under new head coach Nelson Jardim, after he was appointed as the permanent successor to Graham Coughlan.
Evans has been a stand-out player for County, scoring an impressive 25 goals in 55 games last season despite his side only securing a low 18th place finish in the fourth tier. Newport opted to activate the one-year extension clause on his contract, which will see him tied to the club until 2025.
The 27-year-old joined the club in 2022, having played for Penybont in the Cymru Premier and has been present for both pre-season friendlies despite not taking part in the action.
Jenkins discussed the situation around the player to the South Wales Argus:
“There has been interest and we have had a couple of offers, tentative offers, from League One clubs,”
“We have knocked both of them back and there have been other conversations, but nothing else really to report.
“That is just to be expected for a guy who scored over 20 goals last year, so that is where we are at and we hope that things stay as they are.”
The player has been linked to Blackburn Rovers, but the identify of the League One clubs is unknown.
