Hull KR have pulled off a major surprise by signing veteran England hooker Michael McIlorum from Catalans for 2025.
The ex-Wigan star won three Super League Grand Finals with the Warriors and two Challenge Cups before moving to France. He also won at Wembley with the Dragons and will link up with the Robins after spending the last seven seasons in Perpignan. McIlorum, who was England’s starting No9 in the last World Cup, turns 37 in January and had been expected to retire at the end of the campaign. But he will now do at least one more season in Super League.
The Leeds-born hooker has made 370 career appearances in Betfred Super League and the Challenge Cup and said: “I’m very happy to be signing with Hull KR next season. The club has been going from strength to strength over the past few years and I want to be a part of that. After speaking with Willie [Peters] on his ethos and the club’s ambitions I saw this as a great fit for me. Hull KR are a club striving for silverware and I’m looking forward to helping them push for success in 2025.”
