Alice Cooper has enjoyed a career that spans more than half a century. During that time, the rocker has released dozens of collections and claimed his position as one of the most recognizable and beloved musicians in the hard rock world. His fans are still interested in his earliest works to this day, and this week, one of his first albums finally reaches one Billboard ranking thanks to a special new offering.
Billion Dollar Babies debuts on this week’s Top Album Sales chart, Billboard’s ranking of the bestselling titles in the country. The set launches at No. 39 on the tally. According to Luminate, the project sold 2,035 copies in the past tracking period.
Shockingly, this week marks the first time that Billion Dollar Babies has appeared on the Top Album Sales chart. The album is decades old, but only recently has it sold well enough to reach this list. That fact is due largely to the fact that when the set was first released, Billboard’s main albums ranking only included pure purchases. In today’s world, there are other forms of consumption that matter quite a bit, so another list is necessary.
Billion Dollar Babies arrives on the Top Album Sales chart thanks to a new deluxe edition that was released earlier this month. The set, which comes with plenty of goodies for longtime lovers of Cooper’s music, arrived digitally, as well as in a three LP and two CD versions, which likely spurred the buying.
Cooper released Billion Dollar Babies in 1973, and it was a smash for the rocker. The sixth album of his career, this project spurred him to new heights. It marked his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200, after his previous release, School’s Out, stalled in the runner-up rung.
Billion Dollar Babies marks Cooper’s nineteenth appearance on the Top Album Sales chart. He’s previously topped the tally just once, with Detroit Stories in 2021. He’s collected only a pair of top 10s, as much of his output preceded the ranking.
