Good News: Coco Gauff is set to bring her back…..

Coco Gauff emulates Venus Williams with Olympic Games feat in rampant Carle win

Usually the first few rounds for Coco Gauff at any tournament prove to be over before they’ve even begun. That was the case again as the American ace toppled Maria Lourdes Carle 6-1, 6-1.
She reaches the Last 16 and becomes the youngest American woman to do so since Venus Williams so truly emulating greatness as usual. She became the first since Venus in the last round too by winning a match at the tournament as the youngest ever to do so.
It is a 37th win of 2024 for Gauff who has really embraced the role as one of America’s leading lights. The flag bearer during the opening ceremony, Gauff has had the spotlight from very early on in her career and has dealt with it expertly.
She was also watched on by hip hop royalty in Snoop Dogg and it was certainly The Next Episode for Gauff as she moves on to the Last 16. Winning in just under an hour and a half, it was a lot closer than the scoreline suggested at times in a match that went back and forth throughout.
But Gauff’s ranking compared to Carle showed as she managed to produce guile in the true pressure moments including to seal the set. She had set points at 5-0 in the first set and couldn’t take them as well as 5-1 but despite handing Carle break points, she managed to flip the script and find her way into the lead.
The second set was more rampant as she didn’t hand Carle a single break point until she gave away her serve at 5-1. But she recovered well to seal her first match point and break back immediately. Next for Gauff is Donna Vekic who defeated a tearful Bianca Andreescu earlier today. Maria Sakkari likely awaits in the Quarter-Finals. She has just defeated Yue Yuan ina. 6-2, 6-1 win. Danka Kovinic said she deserves a medal and she knows she will likely have to defeat Gauff or one of her best friends in Vekic to get close to one.
Other results see Anna Karolina Schmiedlova continue her roll. She took out Beatriz Haddad Maia, while Emma Navarro is a set down to Viktoriya Tomova. Marta Kostyuk sits on the verge against Clara Burel with only Wozniacki – Collins and Pegula – Svitolina still to come today after those ties.
