NRL Casualty Ward: AJ out for season; Sharks duo sidelined
Rabbitohs winger Alex Johnston is facing 6-9 months out of the game after rupturing his Achilles in Canberra on Sunday night.
The Rabbitohs reported on Monday that the club’s greatest ever tryscorer was scheduled for surgery on Thursday.
Johnston collapsed to the turf without a hand being laid on him as Souths came out of their own end and had to be helped off by two trainers.
Fullback Latrell Mitchell will continue with his conservative management of his foot injury and is facing four more weeks in a moon boot.
Panthers prop James Fisher-Harris will miss the Round 22 clash against the Knights due to a groin injury while fullback Daine Laurie (head knock) is also sidelined for the premiers.
Coach Ivan Cleary told media on Tuesday that Fisher-Harris would not be rushed in his recovery but would be “back in plenty of time for the finals”.
Cowboys forward Jason Taumalolo is facing a stint on the sidelines with a suspected fractured cheekbone while teammate Reuben Cotter will also miss the game against Wests Tigers after copping a knock to the jaw and failing a HIA.
The Sharks will be without winger Ronaldo Mulitalo for 3-4 weeks after he suffered a Grade 2 medial ligament injury against the Cowboys. Prop Tom Hazelton will also miss the Women in League Round match due to a foot injury.
A number of massive inclusions for this weekend’s games with the Roosters getting Joey Manu back after three games out with a fractured hand and the Warriors getting star halfback Shaun Johnson (Achilles) and fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (calf) back for their clash with the Eels.
The finals-bound Bulldogs have skipper Stephen Crichton back on deck after he missed the win over the Broncos due to a pinched nerve in his neck while winger Josh Addo-Carr is good to go after six games out with a hamstring injury.
The Wests Tigers’ 28-16 loss to the Warriors came at a cost with winger Luke Laulilii (head knock) and centre Starford To’a (hamstring) ruled out of the Round 22 clash with the Cowboys.
In positive news for Benji Marshall’s side they have prop David Klemmer (ankle) and centre Justin Olam (knee) returning to the fray this weekend.
Eels star Mitchell Moses has undergone surgery on a biceps rupture and will commence rehabilitation with an aim to return to training in the 2025 pre-season.
The halfback suffered the injury during his series-winning performance for NSW in the State of Origin decider in Brisbane.

Warriors captain Tohu Harris has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery for a chronic wrist injury.
The veteran forward has been carrying the issue for most of the year, missing four games in the middle of the team’s campaign before returning to the field.
