Iron Maiden abandon Brazil gig after barriers collapse – video
Bruce Dickinson calls time on Rio de Janeiro show
Iron Maiden were forced to cancel a concert in Rio de Janeiro last night (March 27) after a barrier collapsed due to a crowd surge.
The incident happened as the band played their opening song, ‘Satellite 15… The Final Frontier’ at the HSBC Arena. Singer Bruce Dickinson stopped the show when he noticed that the barrier separating the fans from the stage had snapped.

“Hey guys, please calm down,” he warned the crowd before adding: “Everyone, take a step backward. The fence broke and it’s dangerous. We do not want anyone to get hurt.”
The gig was halted for 20 minutes before Dickinson returned to the stage to inform fans the show had been cancelled.
He then advised crowd members to pick up wristbands before leaving the venue so that they could gain access to a show at the venue tonight (28) instead.
Promoters Eventpro later released a statement on Iron Maiden‘s official website, Ironmaiden.com. They explained that the event was pulled due to “technical problems with the barricade provided in front of the stage.”
They added: “This decision was taken by HSBC Arena in agreement with the band’s staff, because it’s their priority not to put fans’ safety in risk.”
The promoters also said that fans who can’t make the show tonight will be entitled to a refund.
