Paris Olympics 2024 live updates: Day 15 latest with more track and field as Lydia Ko wins gold in women’s golf

Follow live coverage of the penultimate day of the Games, with gold medals to be handed out in the men’s basketball, golf, boxing and women’s soccer

The United States has won its fifth Olympic gold medal in women’s soccer by beating Brazil 1-0 in final.

Mallory Swanson scored the only goal of the game, while the USA were also indebted to goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, who made a fine late save to deny Brazil’s Adriana.

This is the fifth time the USWNT have won gold at the Olympics and the first time since London 2012.

Huge roar for Gianmarco Tamberi as he’s introduced to start the men’s high jump final. He comes out of the tunnel pounding his chest and shouting. A couple hours ago he was in the back of an ambulance.

If I so much as stub my toe, I cancel my evening plans. This man’s about to try to win an Olympic medal after vomiting blood earlier today. Let’s go.

Golf: Lydia Ko rules out defending gold at LA 2028

Lydia Ko, with a gold medal around her neck, says this will be her final Olympic appearance. At 27, she stopped short of saying she’s ready to retire, but doesn’t go so far as to say she’ll definitely play past 2024. “There’s still so much golf to play this season,” she said. Ko says she doesn’t have a set date to walk away, but says winning gold and securing her place in the LPGA Hall of Fame will make it an easier decision, when the time comes.

Weightlifting: Solfrid Koanda ends Norway’s long wait for gold

Solfrid Koanda has just won the women’s 81kg weightlifting event — and how’s this for a stat. It’s Norway’s first gold medal in weightlifting since the 1972 Games in Munich!

Koanda achieved it with a snatch of 121kg and a clean & jerk Olympic record 154kg. Her total, 275kg, was also a new Olympic record.

Egypt’s Sara Ahmed won silver with Ecuador’s Neisi Dajomes taking bronze.

Track and field: Gianmarco Tamberi warming up

Gianmarco Tamberi, the defending co-gold medalist in the men’s high jump, is out on the track at Stade de France warming up ahead of tonight’s final.

Just hours ago, Tamberi posted on Instagram that he was going to the hospital after vomiting blood.

Tamberi jogged around a bit and acknowledged a warm reception from fans behind the high jump area. We’ll see what he’s able to do after the day he’s had. The high jump final begins at 7 p.m. Paris time, 1 p.m. Eastern.

It’s no longer 0-0 in the women’s soccer gold medal match!

Mallory Swanson has broken the deadlock on the hour mark and the USA lead Brazil 1-0 in Paris.
