NY Giants 2024 injury tracker: Which players are out and when might they return?
EAST RUTHERFORD – Injuries are a part of football. We know this.
And so do the New York Giants, who have taken their fair share of hits in this department through the years.
This is our gathering spot for all Big Blue injury updates, and we’ll keep this tracker through the rest of the preseason and into the 2024 season. Here’s the latest status for all players dealing with an injury:
Position: Running back.
Injury: Low ankle sprain
Estimated return: Late August to early September.
Summary: Based on how the scene at Tuesday’s practice played out, the belief was that the Giants and their fifth-round rookie would need somewhat of a miracle in order to avoid a serious injury. Well, football prayers may have been answered.
There are certainly situations when we all put the cart before the horse and exaggerate details when reporting play-by-play of injuries. Not this time. When you see a player go down the way Tracy went down, an air cast comes out immediately with the training staff and then he goes off on a cart, straight to Hospital for Special Surgery for tests, worst fears are more often than not confirmed.
The Giants and Tracy have apparently gotten lucky here. The latest: belief is that Tracy sustained a Grade 2 low ankle sprain. Considered week to week in a walking boot. Typical recovery ranges from 3-6 weeks – all patients are different, of course – which is much preferred to what the alternative appeared to be. That’ll put him right in line for the start of the season or shortly thereafter if all goes well
Summary:Nabers and the Giants lucked out on this one. He’s already working back with treatment and light running to the point where he could be back on the field well before Week 1. The Giants are going to be cautious, though, so don’t expect the rookie to rush the recovery. He expressed confidence he’ll be good to go for the regular season.
Summary: Runyan left Monday’s practice late after tweaking his shoulder. The Giants pulled back on their starting left guard and gave him a day off, his first of the summer. Don’t be surprised if Runyan ramps back up and returns to practice within the next week or so.
