NRL Casualty Ward: Season over for RTS, Pompey; Broncos lose Hetherington
Warriors centres Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Adam Pompey have played their last game for the season after suffering injuries in the loss to the Bulldogs.
Tuivasa-Sheck was taken high in a tackle that resulted in Stephen Crichton being put on report in the 46th minute. He was sent for a HIA which he failed after being deemed a Category 1 head knock.
Given he will be ruled out next week and the Warriors have a bye in Round 27, Tuivasa-Sheck’s season appears to be over.
Pompey suffered a knee injury and coach Andrew Webster confirmed post-match that he was done for the season.
The Bulldogs had an injury concern of their own with utility Kurt Mann leaving the field late in the match clutching his collarbone.
Brisbane Broncos forward Kobe Hetherington left the field late in the first half of his side’s game against the Eels for a HIA, which he failed.
Wests Tigers centre Adam Doueihi is already out for the rest of the season and teammate Aidan Sezer looks set to join him after injuring his shoulder in Thursday night’s upset win over Manly.
The club has managed Doueihi’s load since his return to the field in Round 16 following a third ACL tear last April.
Doueihi sat out Round 21 and 22 before featuring in the last two games against the Rabbitohs and Knights. He was not named on Tuesday for Thursday’s clash which his team won in a stunning upset.
Halfback Sezer left the field in the 47th minute of the Leichhardt Oval clash and was unable to return to the fray.
“It’s not good, he’ll go for scans but that could be his last game for the year,” coach Benji Marshall said post-match.
Knights playmaker Tyson Gamble will miss his side’s clash against the Rabbitohs after breaking his hand in the golden point loss to the Sharks.
Gamble came from the field at PointsBet Stadium with five minutes to play in regulation time and coach Adam O’Brien confirmed post-match that the five-eighth would be sidelined for at least one match.
The Rabbitohs will be without playmaker Cody Walker, who has entered the concussion protocols after suffering a head knock late in the loss to Wests Tigers.
Roosters utility Connor Watson and Storm winger Grant Anderson are also sidelined this week under the concussion protocols.
Dolphins forward Tevita Pangai junior was unable to overcome a hamstring issue suffered late in the game against the Bulldogs and is a late withdrawal from his side’s match against the Storm.
The Sharks will be without winger Sione Katoa (concussion protocols) and centre Siosifa Talakai (calf) for their clash against the Dragons but they do get halfback Braydon Trindall (hamstring), back-rower Teig Wilton (hamstring), centre Kayal Iro (illness) and prop Tom Hazelton (illness) back for the local derby.
The Dragons have provided an update on the condition of Hame Sele who returned to training this week on light duties as he continues his recovery from a medical condition.
Sele was released from hospital last Wednesday after spending four nights in hospital. He was admitted following the Round 23 match against the Bulldogs after experiencing chest pains during the match with testing revealing he is experiencing pericarditis, a condition which causes inflammation of the tissue surrounding the heart.
Panthers superstar Nathan Cleary won’t require immediate surgery on his injured shoulder and looks set to be available for the finals series.
“The positive outcome is that the club plans to have Nathan available for the NRL Finals,” the Panthers confirmed in a statement.
The premiers have matches against the Raiders, Rabbitohs and Titans to come before launching their finals campaign on the weekend of September 13-15.
