The Washington Commanders have officially renamed their home stadium in Landover, Maryland, following a significant naming rights agreement with Northwest Federal Credit Union.

The rebranded stadium will now be known as “Northwest Stadium,” marking the beginning of a new era for the team and its fanbase.

Commanders stadium gets new name after 25 years

“Northwest Federal Credit Union has been an integral part of this community for generations, and we could not be prouder to partner with an organization as committed to the DMV as we are,” said Washington Commanders managing owner  in a press release.

He added, “As we continue to work toward our goal of building the Commanders into an elite franchise that consistently competes for championships, we are excited to welcome our team and fans to Northwest Stadium and look forward to creating incredible memories together on the field and in the communities we serve.”

The multi-year partnership includes comprehensive Northwest branding throughout the stadium, with a new logo prominently displayed on both exterior and interior signage.

The credit union will also serve as the Commanders’ jersey patch partner for both off-season and in-season practices.

Additionally, Northwest members will enjoy exclusive benefits, such as discounts on tickets and merchandise, further solidifying the partnership’s impact on the fan experience.

While the agreement breathes new life into the aging stadium, which opened in 1997 and has often been criticized for its fan experience, it is also a stepping stone in the team’s broader ambitions.

Commanders still looking to relocate to new stadium

The Commanders have been actively pursuing a new stadium, targeting a potential opening in 2030.

However, the current deal with Northwest does not extend to the potential new facility.
