Titans to Place Rookie LB Cedric Gray on Injured Reserve, But Hope to Get Him Back at Some Point
NASHVILLE – The Titans plan to place rookie linebacker Cedric Gray on Injured Reserve.
Titans General Manager Ran Carthon announced the news at a press conference on Wednesday, when he discussed a number of roster moves.
Gray, the team’s third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of North Carolina, has been dealing with a shoulder injury. The injury is nerve-related, Coach Brian Callahan said previously.
“I get to break news,” Carthon said. “According to sources, we will be placing Cedric Gray on IR, designated for return, just to give him the opportunity to get healthy.
“(I) had the conversation with Cedric this morning. He’s one of those guys that you have to protect him from himself, because he wants to prove that he wants to be on this team, and he has earned the right to be on this team. With the nature of his injury, we just have to protect him from himself and give him an even longer period to get back healthy for us.”
On Wednesday, the Titans officially acquired former Rams linebacker Ernest Jones IV via trade.
The team signed Kenneth Murray Jr. earlier this offseason, and he’s already developed into one of he team’s defensive leaders. The Titans also have inside linebackers Jack Gibbens, Luke Gifford, Otis Reese IV and James Williams on the team’s 53-man roster.
