Georgia football sticks at No. 1 in week three coaches poll
The latest US LBM, USA Today coaches poll is out and there’s zero movement for Georgia. The Bulldogs entered the season ranked No. 1 and that is where they stand after their second win of the season. Kirby Smart‘s ninth home opener as head coach was total domination as UGA coasted to a 48-3 win.
Georgia got 50 of 54 first-place votes and the No. 2 team, Ohio State, has three. Texas comes in at No. 3 and it got one first-place vote. Alabama and Ole Miss, in that order, round out the top five. UGA has to play teams three through five on in the newest coaches poll this season and each of those games is on the road.
Oregon, Penn State, Missouri, Tennessee, and Utah round out the top 10. The Vols are on Georgia’s schedule in November and make it four top-10 teams in the next 10 games.
Georgia’s win over Tennessee Tech…
The Bulldogs were able to empty the bench in their win over the Golden Eagles. A total of 23 true freshmen saw action in the game and there were a number of other reserve players who saw significant action. That’s a strong building block for the path forward per the Georgia head coach.
“I think the biggest thing is getting game experience, so who you play with doesn’t matter as much as if you play,” Smart said after the game. You probably went against somebody Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday that was probably better than who you went against today. I look a lot more at the practice reps we took last week than those. I want to see you perform when the anxiety hits and when the crowd’s out there. We had guys go out there and got an opportunity to make mistakes and bust. They’ve got to get those things out of the way. They’ve got to get them out of the way, and the sooner we get them out of the way, the sooner they can become good players.
