Heartbreak as Wakefield Trinity’s ‘number one fan’ Robert Wood dies as tributes flood in
Wakefield Trinity has paid tribute to one of the club’s most well-known fans, Robert Wood, following his death.
The Wakefield rugby league club described Robert as a ‘huge Trinity fan’ and passed on its condolences to his family.
In a post on social media, Wakefield Trinity said: “Wakefield Trinity are extremely saddened to learn of the passing of Robert Wood. Robert, the son of Trinity stalwart Ray, was a huge Trinity fan. We send our condolences and best wishes to Robert’s family at this very difficult time.”
Dozens of fans have paid their own tributes to Robert on Facebook and Twitter.
John Sharp wrote: “A very familiar face on the terraces for many, many years…really sad news, condolences to family and friends…RIP Rob.”
Phil Townsend said: “RIP Robert. No-one was a bigger supporter of our club and his presence on the terraces will be missed!
Andy Astill posted: “Rest in peace Rob. I’ve had a few chats with him over Facebook over the past few years. Very nice gentleman.”
