Lewis Hamilton attributed his frustrating Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying session to it being the ‘same Saturday as always’. The Brit could only manage a P7 starting grid slot after an underwhelming performance.
With George Russell placing his Mercedes machine in P5, the 26-year-old wrapped up the intra-team qualifying head-to-head battle with seven races to spare.
Hamilton wasn’t in a great mood when questioned about his performance in the media pen. “Same Saturday as always,” he shrugged when quizzed by Sky Sports F1 reporter Ted Kravitz.
Asked about the specific issues he faced, Hamilton replied: “The same thing as every Saturday. Yesterday the car was amazing, it went great. I honestly think I could’ve been at least second row today, but, came today, all of a sudden the tyres didn’t work at all. The tyres didn’t work all day.”
While Hamilton and Russell were both left underwhelmed by their performances, the Silver Arrows can take some confidence from the fact that all four of the top teams were once again in the fight for pole position.
