Geelong provide injury update on key players ahead of Power final

The latest on Tom Hawkins, Tom Stewart, Lawson Humphries, Cam Guthrie, Sam De Koning and more

The Cats had defensive pair Tom Stewart and Lawson Humphries play less than half of their final home and away season game against West Coast last week due to respective hamstring and calf issues.

The club has since confirmed both players will be available to make the trip to South Australia and face the Power in what is a double boost for Scott’s side.

Veteran forward Tom Hawkins (foot) is hoping to be available for Geelong’s finals campaign but is no certainty to return – whether that be through fitness or form.

The Coleman Medal winner has returned to training and would most likely suit up in Geelong’s second final if they were to lose to Port Adelaide and then face the winner of the Western Bulldogs vs Hawthorn in a semi-final.

Fellow premiership Cat Cam Guthrie continues to nurse an Achilles injury that has hampered most of his year, but he too remains in the mix to be available over the next month.

Key defender Sam De Koning (knee) is one of six ins for Geelong’s VFL side on Saturday for their qualifying final against Werribee, with Gary Rohan (managed), Ted Clohesy (concussion), Mark O’Connor (knee), Oscar Murdoch (concussion). Oisin Mullin and Mitch Knevitt.

De Koning hasn’t played since Round 21 due to his injury but has been afforded a more conservative rehabilitation process, with his return to the VFL set to help build his workloads ahead of a finals run.

Rohan is also likely to slot back into a position in Scott’s side next week, while all of Clohesy, O’Connor, Mullin and Knevitt will offer depth.

Geelong’s VFL team faces the Tigers at Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday – five days out from the club’s AFL qualifying final against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.
