This is not a black and white question. What is obvious is that Orgeron is only the tip of the iceberg that constitutes the problem. While in my personal opinion, which has absolutely no bearing on the situation, Orgeron should certainly be terminated for allowing the systemic, misogynistic, polluted atmosphere to exist and thrive in his program. However, firing him will have absolutely no effect on the problem, which is clearly endemic in the entire LSU system, academic as well as athletic. It is entirely possible that Coach Orgeron, and other athletic leaders and coaches, were put in the proverbial no-win position between a rock and a hard place. I.E. pressured by the administration and the trustees to win at all costs, including allowing the reprehensible behavior of elite athletes to continue as long as the teams are winning. It is clear just from the limited information in the column that ran in the USA TODAY issue for Tuesday, 11/17/2020, that the problem permeates the upper echelon of the university’s PTB, not just the football program. In my personal opinion, the right thing to do, would have been for Coach Orgeron to suspend or release the player in question and tender his own resignation while nationally exposing the poisonous, putrid situation at the University.

Should Ed Orgeron be fired from LSU because of the misconduct and indiscretions of his players as disclosed in the investigation recently published in USA Today?
