Three Players Of The Game In Texas’ 35-13 Win Over Mississippi State

After an up-and-down first half, No. 1 Texas ultimately broke the game open in the second half and defeated Mississippi State 35-13 in Week 5. Texas running back Jaydon Blue coughed up two fumbles, wide receiver Johntay Cook dropped what was seemingly a walk-in touchdown pass, and the Longhorns suffered several costly penalties. Individual performances by three specific players were crucial in the outcome. Quarterback Arch Manning made his second career start against the Bulldogs and exceeded expectations. The former five-star recruit completed 26-of-31 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns. Manning has proved he can handle the load if starter Quinn Ewers were to miss time down the road and Texas is clearly in great hands at the position moving forward.

On the defense side, true freshman edge Colin Simmons showed out. Simmons recorded seven tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks against Mississippi State. He’s made an immediate impact for the Longhorns this season and will be a primary reason for Texas’ future success.

Finally, wide receiver DeAndre Moore Moor had the best game of his collegiate career. Moore was Texas’ leading receiver against Mississippi State, hauling in four receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Texas will now enjoy a much-needed bye week before facing No. 21 Oklahoma on Oct. 12.
