The 21-year-old still had a year to run on his previous contract.

Hawthorn have extended athletic tall Max Ramsden for another year, adding to his existing contract set to expire at the end of next season.

The 21-year-old is capable ruck option, standing 203cm, but has an equally promising future as a forward, playing both positions throughout his time at the Hawks, primarily with Box Hill.

Picked up with selection six at 2022 Mid-Season Draft, he has fielded just five senior games, including three in 2024, where his best performance came with nine touches, five marks and a goal against Collingwood at Gather Round.

His development in the reserves has been exciting, playing 14 matches for a 12 goal return, averaging 13 disposals, four marks and nearly 17 hit outs, providing a versatile threat

He is also an elite runner for a big man, blitzing the 2km time trial in his draft year with a time of 6:04.

His one-year extension takes him through to the end of 2026, where Hawthorn hope to get a firmer grasp on his value, either slotting him into what may be a potent side competing near the top, or assessing his value on the open market.

For now, list manager Mark McKenzie and the Hawthorn Football Club are thrilled to extend their young tall.

“This contract extension is a great opportunity to recognise Max’s hard work and desire to continue to develop his craft,” McKenzie said.

“As a longer-term prospect for the club, Max’s future is looking bright, having already shown traits of athleticism, endurance and versatility since arriving at the club via the 2022 mid-season draft.

“We see him forming a valuable part of our future so it’s fantastic to have him buy into the exciting direction we’re heading in as a club.”
