LSU Tigers: Landed Mason Taylor’s Replacement from the Transfer Portal for 2025, Formerly of an SEC Foe
After the conclusion of the 2024 regular season, the LSU Tigers’ tight end position has taken a massive hit, losing their top two players. Star junior tight end Mason Taylor announced on Instagram that he will forego his final year of eligibility and declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. Taylor finished 2024 with 55 receptions for 546 yards and two touchdowns and finished his three-year career with 129 receptions for 1,308 yards and six touchdowns in 38 games.
Tigers’ sophomore tight end Ka’Morreun Pimpton plans to enter the transfer portal. Pimpton finished 2024 with six receptions for 79 yards and his short tenure with seven receptions for 80 yards in 19 career games. With the departure of their top two players at the position, the Tigers have two remaining scholarship tight tight ends on the roster, including freshman Trey’Dez Green and 2025 four-star recruit JD Lafleur.
Since the position is young, the team needed to add an experienced veteran to replace Mason Taylor. They found one in the transfer portal.
According to Pete Nakos of On3, the Tigers landed redshirt junior Bauer Sharp from the transfer portal with one final year of college eligibility.
Sharp committed to the Southeastern Louisiana Tigers as a quarterback prospect for the 2021 season. After redshirting in his true freshman season, Sharp switched from quarterback to tight end for the 2022 season. He caught 40 passes for 366 yards and four touchdowns with the Tigers from 2022 to 23 in 24 games with ten starts. He entered the transfer portal for the 2024 season.
Bauer Sharp transferred to the Oklahoma Sooners for the 2024 season. Sharp had a solid first season in the SEC, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards because of the many injuries the Sooners’ receiving corps faced this season. He recorded 42 receptions for 324 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games.
