Leeds United are now set to sign 21-y/o RSL playmaker with 17G/A this year, costs less than Ampml

Daniel Farke has Blackburn Rovers and Hull City to focus on first and foremost at the start of 2025, but the January window opens alongside these two games taking place.

With that, fans will be eager to see if the club can rectify any lingering shortcomings in the squad, namely in attacking midfield

According to a report from Voetbal Nieuws has claimed that Leeds are keeping tabs on MLS attacking midfielder Diego Luna, currently at Real Salt Lake.

The 21-year-old has managed nine goals and eight assists largely playing off the left in 2024, but has featured elsewhere across the attack too.

A senior USMNT international, Luna is claimed to command an asking price of €8million (£6.64million) for Salt Lake to cash in, a fee less than the Whites paid for Ethan Ampadu – he is contracted for another two years until December 31, 2026.

Alongside Leeds’ supposed interest in the youngster are clubs from Belgium, including Anderlecht, off the back of his MLS Young Player of the Year award.

It’s very hard to say confidently if Luna would be able to translate his form in the MLS to a league like the Championship, but others certainly have.

Aidan Morris at Middlesbrough is the best example of someone who has moved straight from the States to the EFL and made the transition look easy, so there’s reason to believe Luna could.

What stands in his favour at Leeds is that he’s a left-footed attacking midfielder, a profile of player we don’t have right now – all our attacking options behind the striker are right footed
