The Florida State football team opens its 2025 season at home vs. Alabama. Transfer defensive end James Williams intends to dominate the Crimson Tide in his first game with the Seminoles.
Williams previewed his debut season with his new team after moving on from Nebraska. He wants to bring the ‘Noles back to the standard after a miserable 2-10 output a year ago.
To do so, the team will have to knock off some stiff competition on the ’25 slate. Outside of that opener against Alabama, the Seminoles are set to face Miami, Clemson, and Florida in the regular season.
Williams is looking forward to those big-time matchups. He wants to perform to the top of his abilities against the best of the best. He wants his new team to do the same.
In stating his ambitions for the upcoming year, he unintentionally threw a future foe under the bus. Wake Forest is also on the Florida State schedule. Williams doesn’t consider the Demon Deacons much of a threat.
“I’m not just here to be a recruiting face for you guys, I’m here to dominate against Alabama. I want to make sure I’m not just good against Wake Forest, I’m ready for Clemson, Miami, and all of those big games that we have, and Florida at the end of the year.”
-James Williams.
It’s worth noting that the Seminoles have lost to Wake Forest in three of their last four meetings. The two squads didn’t face off in 2024.
A number of online outlets are running with James Williams’ comments about Alabama, but it might be the Demon Deacons keeping receipts when all is said and done. Expect this quote to make another round on social media ahead of their meeting on November 1st.
As for Williams, he’s looking to build on a 2024 campaign in which he recorded five sacks across 12 games with the Cornhuskers. He followed his position coach from Lincoln to Tallahassee after Terrance Knighton was plucked from the Nebraska staff.
Williams has yet to take a snap for the Seminoles, but he’s already making enemies. Both Alabama and Wake Forest might have a target on the pass rusher’s back when he takes the field next season.
