A former Kentucky transfer portal target is available once again

The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball program is once again exploring the possibility of adding a familiar name to its roster: Treysen Eaglestaff. The former North Dakota standout, who had previously committed to South Carolina, has reopened his recruitment, presenting an opportunity for Kentucky to revisit a player they once targeted.

Eaglestaff’s Journey and Kentucky’s Renewed Interest

Treysen Eaglestaff, a 6-foot-6 guard, made a significant impact during his time at North Dakota, showcasing his scoring ability and versatility on the court. In the 2024–25 season, he averaged 18.9 points per game, shooting 35.9% from three-point range on 7.1 attempts per game. His standout performances included a 51-point game against South Dakota State in the Summit League tournament and a 40-point game against Alabama. These achievements positioned him as one of the most sought-after players in the transfer portal.

Initially, Eaglestaff committed to South Carolina, choosing the Gamecocks over other prominent programs such as Kansas, Kentucky, Gonzaga, and Iowa. However, he recently decommitted from South Carolina, re-entering the transfer portal and reigniting interest from the programs that had previously pursued him. Kentucky, in particular, is considering re-engaging with Eaglestaff, recognizing the potential impact he could have on their roster.

Potential Fit Within Kentucky’s Roster

Under head coach Mark Pope, Kentucky has been proactive in the transfer portal, seeking players who can contribute immediately and fit into the team’s dynamic playing style. Eaglestaff’s experience and proven track record make him a compelling option. His scoring prowess and versatility would provide an immediate boost to the Wildcats’ offensive capabilities.

With the Wildcats aiming to enhance their perimeter shooting and overall offensive efficiency, Eaglestaff’s addition could be a strategic move. His ability to stretch the floor and create scoring opportunities would complement Kentucky’s existing roster. Furthermore, his experience in high-pressure games and ability to perform at a high level would be invaluable assets to the team.

As Treysen Eaglestaff reenters the transfer market, Kentucky finds itself in a position to potentially secure a player who could make an immediate impact. The renewed interest underscores the Wildcats’ commitment to strengthening their roster through experienced and versatile talent. Should Eaglestaff choose to join Kentucky, his presence could be a significant asset in the team’s pursuit of success in the upcoming season.
