Fabrizio Romano confirms major coup for West Brom as Baggies capture star for seven-figure fee
West Brom have agreed a transfer fee for a top striker with a dazzling goalscoring record in Scandinavia.
West Brom appointed Ryan Mason as head coach to replace Tony Mowbray, who was relieved of his duties at the back end of the 2024/25 Championship season.
With the former Tottenham Hotspur man joining up, it sparks a fresh start for West Brom, who will be keen to put the previous campaign’s woes behind them and gun for the play-offs.
At times last season, goals were a rare commodity for the Baggies, leaving Mason to prioritise bringing in a goalscorer this summer. As now revealed, it looks set that the new coach’s dream will come true as a Norwegian youngster looks set to join up at The Hawthorns.

West Brom agree to sign Brann striker Aune Heggebø
The latest developments coming out of West Brom, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano on X, is that the Baggies are set to sign Brann forward Aune Heggebø.
The Norwegian is set to join for €5.5million, which is the equivalent of £4.75million. Having bagged seven goals and notched two assists in 13 games in the ongoing Eliteserien season, it is safe to say that the 23-year-old has raised eyebrows with his current record.
Seen as an explosive and powerful forward for his age, Heggebø notably has a deadly goalscoring touch that has been shown on many occasions during his time at Norwegian top-division side Brann.

Baggies have identified the next Erling Haaland
Looking at what Aune Heggebo is capable of, he seems to show shades of a young Erling Haaland – tall, commanding, and of course, Norwegian.
Whilst Heggebø may lack a touch of pace, playing in the Championship will hopefully get the youngster up to speed at this level.
The Brann bruiser will be a threat from corners, and hopefully, should be capable of holding the ball up as he looks to find runners on.
The signing of Heggebø, whilst being a risk, could pay off spectacularly for West Brom – there is every chance they may have uncovered a gem.
Per Target Scouting, who gave an in-depth view on the striker, suggesting that he ‘has timing issues with his runs due to overeagerness, [but] his efficiency in the box makes up for it’ and that ‘he is effective drifting between defenders to ghost into a crowded box unmarked’. It is safe to say that he isn’t at his peak, but could still become a top forward if he works on his footballing intelligence.
Ryan Mason outlines the ‘first thing’ he needs from his West Brom players, he already ‘feels at home’
West Brom are looking for a play-off finish in the 2025/26 Championship campaign.
After Tony Mowbray was sacked in April, Ryan Mason was appointed as the new head coach of the Baggies. It is the first time the ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been handed the permanent gig by a club and excitement is building ahead of the new season.
There is just over a month until the first Championship fixtures get underway and the West Midlands outfit will be hoping for the perfect start as they welcome Blackburn Rovers to The Hawthorns on 9 August.
West Brom have shown an interest in Jacques Siwe as they look for more firepower up front, but it is clear to see just how comfortable Mason is becoming in the Black Country.

Ryan Mason speaks out on his time at West Brom so far
It’s been just over a month since the 34-year-old was appointed by Albion and with Nat Phillips already through the door at The Hawthorns, preparations are going well ahead of the new season.

with pre-season games around the corner, Mason has spoken about his first few weeks as the West Brom head coach. He said (via: BBC Radio WM): “Football is a strange world, you can be made to feel at home somewhere so quickly.
“The people I’ve inherited have contributed to that. I feel like I have been here more than a month already. [I gave] expectations around the type of people I want them to be. We’ll have our philosophy and understanding of how we want the team to look but the most important thing is the people who drive it.”
“The playing side is super important, but the people inside the club, Andrew [Nestor] the chairman and Piercy [head of recruitment Ian Pearce] the dialogue I had with them, was the most important thing. That gives me the belief we can build something together. Ultimately I need to get the players to believe in what we are doing.
“That is the first thing. We want to fight for everything and be together, you have to be a team and pulling in the same direction. That trumps any tactical approach.”
