Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney must spare just £1m to secure Wrexham the signing of the summer
For all the money and might that Wrexham now have, they could land one potentially incredible signing this summer for just a £1million fee. But they’d need to act fast.
Wrexham have already put their spending money to use this summer, with Ryan Hardie joining from Plymouth Argyle in a £700,000 deal, becoming the club’s first signing of the summer.
Since then, Wrexham have signed Danny Ward on a free transfer in a move that’s divided opinion on social media, but it makes for another signing at the Racecourse nonetheless.
This summer it’s been reported that Wrexham have a £25million transfer budget to spend on new players. On top of that, Wrexham will pay up to £30,000-a-week in player wages, so there’s definitely scope to attract some top players.
But spending must be sensible to ensure Phil Parkinson can bolster every position he needs to. One such position is in the heart of midfield where there’s a lot of players linked: Wrexham are keen to sign Lewis O’Brien and it’s claimed that a club record bid of £5million is in the offing.
For Wrexham though, there’s another, much cheaper option in Sunderland’s Nectarios Triantis.

Sunderland ready to cash in on Nectarios Triantis this summer
Sunderland signed the Australian centre-back/midfielder in 2023 from Central Coast Mariners. But he barely got his chance with the Black Cats making just three Championship appearances before their promotion to the Premier League, which now looks set to see him leave the club permanently this summer.
Last season, the 22-year-old was on loan at Hibernian. And he thoroughly impressed with three goals and six assists in 34 Scottish premiership games, playing in a holding midfield role. Fans loved him, the manager sang his praise often, and now Hibs are desperate to re-sign him.
But they’ve recently been joined by Blackburn Rovers who’ve thrown their hat in the ring. Sunderland are understood to want a fee around the £1million mark for Triantis this summer.

Three reasons why Nectarios Triantis is perfect for Wrexham
He’s young and hungry
It’s not been easy for Triantis since his move to England. He couldn’t get a look-in at Sunderland and in his initial loan spell at Hibs, he didn’t really blow anyone away. He did in his second stint, though.
Now with some momentum and some understanding of the British game, Triantis is surely hungry to prove any Sunderland doubters wrong, and show them that he can hack it in England. And at just 22 years old, he’d bring some vital youth to the Wrexham side: Parkinson recently said Wrexham are focusing much more on the youth academy going forward.
Nectarios Triantis would add some much-needed steel
Wrexham’s style of play under Parkinson is quite physical. It might yet suit the Championship. But going up against some top teams, there’s inevitably going to be games where the Dragons are really under the cosh.
But having someone like Triantis who’s a tough-tackler, and a physical commander in the middle of the pitch would really be beneficial, especially considering that many of Wrexham’s central midfield options are perhaps more technical than physical.
£1million is an absolute bargain
Whilst Wrexham have money to spend this summer, they can’t turn their noses up at bargain buys, and Triantis would be just that.
We’re talking about £1million (which is only half of Wrexham’s record signing which was Sam Smith for £2million) for a player who’s just capped a really impressive season in Scotland, is only 22, and is technically a Premier League player, too.
We could really see the race for his signature heat up in the coming weeks with Triantis bound to leave Sunderland. Wrexham could be the perfect landing spot for him this summer.
