Birmingham City now keen on £10m Wrexham transfer target, could be another Tommy Doyle situation
Wrexham and Birmingham City have been linked with several of the same players during the 2025 summer transfer window.
With Rob McElhenney, Ryan Reynolds, and Tom Brady all involved, Wrexham and Birmingham City formed an interesting rivalry over the course of the 2024/25 League One season.
hat campaign, of course, ended with the Blues setting an EFL record and winning the league title, but the Red Dragons also won promotion to the Championship in second place.
Going into 2025/26, the two North America-backed clubs have once again been locking horns in the transfer market.
Wrexham and Birmingham wanted Harry Darling, but he instead opted to leave Swansea City for free and join Norwich City.
Elsewhere, Tommy Doyle of Wolverhampton Wanderers was a target for both clubs once the window opened.
Wrexham missed out on Doyle, with Birmingham confirming the signing of the midfielder this week.

Birmingham City want Wrexham target Lewis O’Brien
After missing out on Doyle, the Welsh side will be fearing the worst following the latest news regarding one of their transfer targets.
Wrexham are linked to Lewis O’Brien, who spent time on loan at Swansea during the most recent season.
O’Brien’s qualities have been highlighted, and he would make an excellent addition to Parkinson’s squad in the Championship.
However, it now looks as though the Blues are also in the running for the Forest midfielder.
Journalist Darren Witcoop has reported over the weekend that after Hull City’s transfer embargo, the Tigers are out of the running for the midfielder.
However, he adds that Birmingham are keen on O’Brien, who is dubbed a £10m-rated midfielder.

Transfer update on two Wrexham targets
As well as O’Brien, Witcoop shared updates on two more players currently linked with the Dragons.
Wrexham want to sign Barry Bannan from Sheffield Wednesday, with the journalist saying that the Scotsman is fancied by the Hollywood-backed side.
Elsewhere, another of Bannan’s teammates was linked this week, with Josh Windass of interest.
On the Windass front, Witcoop says he could be lured away from Hillsborough due to the club’s financial problems.
The attacking midfielder still has one year left on his current contract with Wednesday.
