Sheffield Wednesday man signs new contract amid chaos, it could be the most important deal they do this summer

Sheffield Wednesday fans have needed some good news for a while, so the club tying down one of its most important figures to a new contract has come at the perfect time.

With unpaid wages and HMRC bills leaving Sheffield Wednesday with a triple transfer embargo, it’s safe to say the club is not in a good place right now.

Aside from all this, Danny Rohl has still not reported for pre-season training and there’s every chance he will leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

In the interim, the Owls had put Andy Holdsworth in charge of their summer training camp. Now, a more experienced head will be stepping in, as Henrik Pedersen signs a new contract with the club.

Henrik Pedersen signs a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday

Pedersen is Rohl’s right-hand man at Hillsborough, but like much of the backroom staff at Wednesday, his current deal was set to expire this summer.

News broke on Monday night that the Danish coach had signed a new contract, which is a welcome boost for the Owls just when they needed it most.

Upon signing the new deal, Pedersen said (via the Sheffield Wednesday website): “When the opportunity presented itself and the chairman asked me to extend my current contract with the club, I didn’t hesitate.

“It’s no secret that my family and I have fallen in love with this great club and also this wonderful city that has made us so welcome.

“The fans are what carries a club through tough games, good times and bad. And our supporters are the best!

“I’m excited to continue my role at the club and getting back to work supporting the team and working with the great group of players we have.”

If Danny Rohl leaves, Henrik Pedersen will surely be the next Sheffield Wednesday manager

While Danny Rohl is linked with the Leicester City job, there is a chance that role could be his last roll of the dice before having no option but to return to S6 and resume his duties as Sheffield Wednesday manager.

That would be a bittersweet victory for the Owls, with a real sense of disillusion among the fanbase with regards to Rohl now after his antics this summer.

But, in the eventuality that the German does depart, having Pedersen locked in for the future is a very smart move indeed. It’s unlikely that any external figures would be jumping at the chance to replace Rohl given the current circumstances (unless a takeover were to progress, of course).

Pedersen, on the other hand, clearly loves the club and has committed to sticking around for the foreseeable. He may be the assistant manager now, but there could very well be a big promotion in the pipeline for the 47-year-old very soon.
