According to Sky Sports News, Nottingham Forest supporters will be happy to hear that Anthony Elanga will be returning to Nottingham Forest this evening after failing the Newcastle United physical.

Anthony Elanga claim that Newcastle United will love – ‘I know he will want to’

Newcastle United are finalising a move for Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga and the Sweden international has the potential to ‘keep developing’

Anthony Elanga will want to get ‘even better’ at Newcastle United and the Magpies will give the forward the ‘platform’ to do so.

That is the view of former Manchester United academy coach Neil Wood, who worked closely with Elanga, after the Sweden international touched down on Tyneside.

Elanga jetted in from Portugal on Tuesday evening to finalise his £55m move from Nottingham Forest and undergo his medical.

Wood has backed Elanga to be a big hit with supporters once the deal is completed – and there is clearly a lot more to come from the 23-year-old, who ‘sets himself targets year after year’.

“He’s one of the fastest players in the league,” Wood told ChronicleLive. “But I know he will want to be developing.

“He’s a strong character. Even from a young age he was really driven. He will want to get even better and Newcastle will give him the platform to do that.”

Elanga will certainly be eager to hit the ground running. It can take signings time to adjust to Eddie Howe’s intense demands, and learn Newcastle’s patterns of play, but Elanga has had the benefit of already making 113 appearances in the Premier League.

Elanga has also previously sampled life in the Champions League with Manchester United, but the forward tellingly felt like he had to move on and join Nottingham Forest a couple of years ago in order to ‘find ways to learn and improve’ in his own words.

“He probably deserved a bit more time,” Wood reflected. “He made his debut and he scored quite early on at Wolves away with a great header.

“Anthony is the type of character who was going to make sure that he stayed there when he got his chance. He did that, was training really well and maybe should have got a few more opportunities. If he did get some more, I think he would have stayed around a lot longer.”

Ralf Rangnick’s Comments About Anthony Elanga While Man Utd Interim Manager

Anthony Elanga is on the verge of leaving Nottingham Forest after Newcastle United agreed to pay an eye-watering £55 million for his services. Forest will be making a cool £40 million profit on the 23-year-old, who the Tricky Trees signed from Manchester United in 2023.

Elanga, who has scored four goals in 22 games for Sweden’s national team, initially came through the ranks at Man Utd – the club he joined aged 12. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed Elanga his first appearances for the Red Devils before the club legend was sacked and replaced by interim head coach Ralf Rangnick.

While Rangnick didn’t manage to convince every United player that he had what it took to manage one of the world’s biggest football clubs – including, most notably, Cristiano Ronaldo – the current Austria head coach has ultimately been proved right about a number of things since his departure at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

One player who impressed Rangnick more than most, even if he wasn’t anywhere close to being one of the team’s star players at the time, was Elanga. Rangnick was a huge fan of the youngster and even described the Swede as a ‘role model’ that his teammates should look to learn from.

“He is playing as though it is a dream come true, it is a joy and fun to watch him play, I wish a few other players would take him as an example and as a role model,” Rangnick said of Elanga after the forward scored against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

“He’s just enjoying himself on the pitch and he’s fully aware of his strengths, his assets, his weapons. He’s always trying to play and show those weapons.”
