Sky Sports News: Five minutes ago, Brentford forward Yoane Wissa formally turned down a huge offer from Tottenham, Newcastle United, and two other major teams to sign a four-year contract with Nottingham Forest, saying, “I want to play for Nottingham Forest.”

Brentford star wants to leave club this summer as two Premier League rivals show interest

A highly rated Premier League striker has told club bosses he wants to leave this summer.

He’s not the first to leave the club during this transfer window, with departures already confirmed and a teammate embroiled in a long-running saga with Manchester United.

Tottenham are plotting a move for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, with the Congo international reportedly eager to reunite with his former boss Thomas Frank in north London, according to TalkSport.

Newcastle United are also monitoring the 28-year-old striker after his standout campaign, in which he netted 19 Premier League goals.

Brentford have set a £50m asking price for Wissa, though clubs believe that figure is negotiable. If that price tag is met, it would surpass the club record-breaking £40m they received from selling Ivan Toney last summer.

Wissa joined Brentford from Lorient for £8.5m four years ago and has grown into a key figure, especially last season when he stepped up alongside Bryan Mbeumo to offset Toney’s departure.

But Brentford are now facing a mini exodus. Frank has already left for Spurs, captain Christian Norgaard joined Arsenal, and goalkeeper Mark Flekken signed with Bayer Leverkusen. They also rejected a £62.5m bid from Manchester United for Mbeumo earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Brentford have started reinvesting, bringing in Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher for £12m and Feyenoord’s Antoni Milambo for £17m, among other new faces.

Spurs, under Frank, are having a busy transfer window themselves.

The club has already landed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham for £55m, triggered a £60m clause for Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, and made moves to sign loanees Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso permanently – pushing their spending beyond £100m.

If Gibbs-White completes his switch, Forest could then become frontrunners for Wissa, with a fresh windfall that would surpass their previous record sale of £47.5m, also paid by Spurs for Brennan Johnson.

Thomas Frank is working closely with chairman Daniel Levy to get transfers across the line at Tottenham Hotspur.

After a slow start, the North Londoners have picked up some momentum as evidenced by their recent transfer activity. Earlier this week, they confirmed the signing of Japanese youngster Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale. On Wednesday, the Hotspur Way chiefs agreed a £55m fee for West Ham United attacker Mohammed Kudus.

And to every fan’s surprise on Thursday, Spurs triggered Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause in his Nottingham Forest contract. The club chiefs have accelerated their transfer business before Thomas Frank and Co. start their pre-season tour. After Kudus’ potential acquisition, the new Tottenham boss remains keen on adding a new centre-forward amid Richarlison’s uncertain future.

Recent reports suggest that the Lilywhites are ‘weighing up financials’ ahead of a potential move for Brentford for Yoane Wissa. They have enquired about the 28-year-old, who scored 19 Premier League goals and assisted four times last season and forged a lethal partnership with fellow African Bryan Mbeumo up front for the Bees.

Tottenham face competition from Nottingham Forest for Yoane Wissa

But, Tottenham are not the only club interested in signing Yoane Wissa. According to an exclusive report from The Athletic, Nottingham Forest have renewed their interest in Wissa and made a fresh offer to Brentford. The new bid tabled by the Tricky Trees was below their £25m January offer, and was immediately rebuffed as the Bees value their star forward in excess of £50m.

Nottingham Forest will be loaded with cash to spend interestingly after Spurs agreed to trigger Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause. So, Forest reviving their interest in Wissa is not good news for the Lilywhites, who are looking to reunite the Congolese with Frank after their good work together at Brentford.

Wissa has proven himself in the Premier League since arriving from FC Lorient in 2021. The 28-year-old has netted 45 goals in 137 Premier League appearances for Brentford, and it is worth noting that he mainly operated as a back-up to both Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo until the former’s departure to Saudi Pro League last summer.

This makes his goal ratio impressive in that case, but is he still worth in excess of £50m? For a striker who is set to turn 29 in September and set to be used as a rotational option with Dominic Solanke, £50m is a bit steep. That said, if the Bees don’t lower their demands to sell Wissa, Spurs may well look out for cheaper alternatives to bring competition for Solanke next term.
