Wrexham now face competition from Championship rivals for international star, Ryan Reynolds has one advantage

Wrexham have identified a former Premier League and Scottish star to join this summer, and Ryan Reynolds will have the upper hand to bring him in for one clear reason.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson is keen to add to his troops ahead of the challenging 2025/26 Championship season.

The Red Dragons have already brought in two players, with Ryan Hardie joining from Plymouth Argyle, whilst Danny Ward returned to Wrexham, the club he came through the youth ranks at.

With the significant step up in quality between League One and the Championship, Wrexham will need to continue in their pursuits to bolster Parkinson’s squad.

The Wrexham boss has shown a desire to bring in a midfielder, with Lewis O’Brien linked to the club. As complications continue surrounding O’Brien’s wage, it appears that Wrexham have moved on by targeting one Scottish international, but there’s a catch.

Wrexham face competition from Sheffield Wednesday to sign Stuart Armstrong

As previously confirmed by Wrexham Insider, we noted that Wrexham have a chance of signing Stuart Armstrong this summer after he was released by Sheffield Wednesday.

Wrexham’s interest has continued, however, Alan Nixon on Patreon has suggested that Sheffield Wednesday are looking towards a reunion with the midfielder, only weeks after his stay at the club officially came to an end.

Sheffield Wednesday look set to offer Armstrong a chance to return to the club, where he will be under the assurance that his game time will be more significant in his second spell for Danny Rohl’s side.

Former Southampton star Armstrong has notched Premier League and Championship experience in his career, whilst also previously playing Champions League football, where he featured against Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich.

Why Wrexham and Ryan Reynolds have a significant advantage in the pursuit of Stuart Armstrong

There is no clear frontrunner in the pursuit of Stuart Armstrong at this moment, although Wrexham have enquired over attaining the services of the 33-year-old.

Fortunately for Wrexham, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac will have an upper hand in negotiations with Armstrong due to the strong financial situation at the club, especially in comparison to Sheffield Wednesday.

Sam Smith compares Ollie Palmer to David Beckham after Wrexham victory in Melbourne

Wrexham’s record signing has taken to Instagram to heap praise on teammate Ollie Palmer after the striker impressed with his performance in the first half against Melbourne.

Palmer was involved in the opening goal for Thomas O’Connor as his testing cross was parried into the path of the defender, who calmly rolled the ball into the empty net.

Smith commented on Palmer’s Instagram post with: “Love it becks 🔥” after the 33-year-old posted some photos from his time on the first leg of the Australian tour.

Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri has struggled to pay players and staff on time in recent months, which will stand out as a reason why a move to Sheffield Wednesday may be regarded as less appealing to the Scotsman.

There may not be as much of a guarantee of game time under Phil Parkinson, but the positivity around Wrexham will certainly appeal to the midfielder.
