Sheffield Wednesday sales open possibility of lifting one transfer embargo
Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama both joined as the Owls upgraded their squad for a return to the Championship two years ago, and on Tuesday afternoon it was confirmed the latter’s expected move to Rangers had been completed.
Musaba joined Turkish side Samsunspor late last week.
Both fees were undisclosed, let alone the terms, but it is thought Rangers have paid around £2.2m. The low fee is likely to be in return for more or all of the money up front.
Confirmation of Gassama’s sale followed reports of staff receiving overdue wages.
Exclusive: Leicester City backed to seal “solid” Sheffield Wednesday signing
Don Goodman believes that Max Lowe would be a solid signing for Leicester City if he departs Sheffield Wednesday this summer.
It was reported by Alex Crook earlier this week that the defender is on the Foxes’ radar amid uncertainty surrounding everything behind the scenes at Hillsborough.
It was claimed by Alan Nixon that Preston North End could provide strong competition for his signature.
Lowe joined the Owls last summer after departing rivals Sheffield United, and he featured 34 times in the Championship as Danny Rohl’s side finished 12th in the table.

Don Goodman makes Max Lowe transfer claim
Goodman praised Lowe’s season with Sheffield Wednesday, claiming he played a role in their uptick in form compared to the campaign prior.
He believes that competition could be stiff for game time at Leicester, but that if some defenders depart then the 28-year-old would be a very solid addition to Martí Cifuentes’s side, especially if he becomes available as a free agent.
“Max Lowe obviously traded one side of Sheffield for the other, he went to Sheffield Wednesday last summer,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.
“It was a solid season on the pitch for Sheffield Wednesday as a football club after the season before’s relegation battle.
“And Max Lowe had a solid season himself.
“It just makes you wonder whether he’s one of the players that would benefit from Sheffield Wednesday not paying wages and him being allowed to leave on a free transfer.
“In which case, that would be a very attractive proposition for a club like Leicester City.
“Fierce competition there will be at the moment, unless there are going to be lots of defenders departing Leicester City, and you never know really.
“So, the word solid would be one that I would use, if that move were to happen.”
Leicester will face Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the campaign on 10 August at the King Power Stadium.
Lowe departure would be a big loss for Sheffield Wednesday
This summer has now become about keeping the squad as together as possible at Sheffield Wednesday given the financial issues behind the scenes.
But if Lowe is able to terminate his contract, then he is well within his rights to move elsewhere and go to a club that will pay his wages on time.
A move to Leicester would offer him the chance to compete for promotion to the Premier League.
So even with a possible reduction in game time, that might be worthwhile at this stage of his career, as he could also work his way into Cifuentes’ plans, depending on what other business the Foxes do this summer.
