James Trafford ‘faces wrath’ of Newcastle United supporters with Sunderland saying

Newcastle United are in talks with Burnley over signing James Trafford.

If James Trafford is to become a Newcastle United player then he must get one part of the Geordie dialect right.

Trafford watched on from his holiday destination as England under-21s retained their European Championship crown with a 3-2 victory over Germany in the final.

Harvey Elliott and Omari Hutchinson put the Three Lions 2-0 before goals from Nelson Weiper and Paul Nebel forced extra time. Jonathan Rowe’s strike in the 92nd then proved to be the winner.

In 2023, Trafford, alongside Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, was part of the Three Lions team that won the competition for the first time since 1986. Trafford is fondly remembered for saving a late penalty in the final to secure a 1-0 win.

This time, it was a new batch of youngsters with Newcastle right-back Tino Livramento and Geordie midfielder Elliot Anderson among the star performers.

Trossard should leave Arsenal amid their summer spending

Football Insider verdict

Showing his support in the comments, Newcastle transfer target Trafford made a rookie mistake. The 22-year-old replied “haway” which, for non-North East speakers reading this, is synonymous with Sunderland.

“Howay” is what is said on Tyneside and Whitley Bay-born Anderson wasted no time in correcting Trafford. And you could say ‘faced the wrath’ of Newcastle fans, many of whom were also keen to correct him in the comments.

Trossard has mostly played a back-up role at the Emirates over the last few years, but he did manage to make 28 league starts last term, which came mostly as a result of Gabriel Martinelli’s inconsistent form.

The 30-year-old can be a top Premier League winger when he is on his game, and he recently netted 10 goals and 10 assists in 56 appearances last term, which is a healthy return but can be improved on.

Arsenal’s current summer plans indicate that he may well be allowed to leave the club, and Trossard himself should want to depart if he is going to offered less game-time by Arteta

Bayern Munich are believed to be interested in a move for his services right now [The Guardian], after Fenerbahce were thought to be closing in but talks have been put on hold just as he prepared to fly to Istanbul to meet with with the Turkish giants.

Joining a top club like Bayern would be a great move for him at his age, and it does feel like his time in North London is coming to a natural end with Arsenal moving for Madueke and linked to Rodrygo.

Reacting to the victory on Instagram, Anderson shared a photo of him holding the trophy and another of him wearing an England kit when he was still a junior with the caption “EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS”.
