Newcastle United agree exciting deal as forward arrives in UK to undergo medical – report

Reports in South Korea claimed Newcastle United have agreed to sign the 18-year-old winger.

Newcastle United are reportedly set to sign South Korean talent Park Seung-soo.

According to Football Asian, the Magpies have fought off competition from a host of European clubs to sign the 18-year-old winger, dubbed as the ‘Korean Mbappe’, from Suwon Samsung Bluewings.

It’s claimed Park has arrived in the United Kingdom this week ahead of undergoing a medical. Eddie Howe’s squad visit Park’s homeland later this month as part of their preparations for the new Premier League season.

Park previously trialled at Bayern Munich, while RB Salzburg, Hoffenheim, Grasshoppers, Marseille, Valencia, Southampton and Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly shown interest. But in the end, it boiled down to FC Midtjylland or Newcastle, and Park has chosen the latter.

Known for his pace, Park has drawn comparisons to Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe.

“I know speed is my biggest weapon,” Park said in a recent interview. “But I’m also confident in my dribbling, especially down the wings. I study the players I admire — I’ve watched Mbappé’s folding tricks so many times I can probably do them in my sleep.”

“For those within Korean football circles, Park’s rise has felt inevitable,” Football Asian writes.

“Born in 2007 and a product of Suwon Samgsung’s academy since primary school, Park has long been hailed as one of the country’s top attacking prospects. Even as a teenager, he displayed the drive and professionalism of a senior professional — relentless in training, meticulous in video analysis, and obsessed with perfecting his craft.

“At just 16, Park made headlines by becoming the youngest semi-professional player in K League history. In 2024, he shattered further records — debuting in the Korea Cup against Pohang, becoming the youngest ever to register an attacking contribution in the competition, and the youngest goalscorer across both tiers of the K League system.

“Park also holds the record for the youngest appearance in K League 2. His U15 season was equally prolific. As captain of Suwon’s youth side, he netted 18 goals in the K League Junior A-zone and led his team to back-to-back regional titles.”
