Ipswich Town blow as player rejects transfer to Kieran McKenna’s side
Ipswich Town have been working on a move for Deportivo Toluca’s Marcel Ruiz this summer.
Five days ago, journalist César Luis Merlo reported Ipswich Town’s negotiations with the Mexican club for the midfielder are going well. He also said the two clubs intend to close the operation for around $10m [€8.55m].
César Luis Merlo made no mention of the 24-year-old’s stance on joining the English club.
He now provides the latest on that for Mexico’s Súper Deportivo, and it’s not positive for Kieran McKenna’s side.
According to the journalist, the Mexico international has decided not to leave Deportivo Toluca for the Championship side.
Although the Mexican club were in advanced talks with Ipswich Town to sell Ruiz, he has now decided to withdraw from the negotiations because he’s not keen on joining the second division English club.
Instead, Ruiz has decided to continue at Deportivo Toluca, where he has a contract until 2027.
Last season, Ruiz operated as a central and a defensive midfielder, managing three goals and nine assists from 41 games.
Brentford transfer news: Bees ‘launch £35m bid’ for Ipswich attacker amid three-club race
Brentford have reportedly submitted a £35m bid for Ipswich Town attacker Omari Hutchinson.
The Bees are on the lookout for new faces for their forward ranks, recently identifying the Tractor Boy as a main target in the summer window.
Hutchinson secured a permanent switch to Portman Road from Chelsea last year and impressed during his maiden term in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old netted three goals and provided two assists across 31 top-flight matches for Kieran McKenna‘s men in 2024-25.
Despite the best efforts of Hutchinson, Ipswich were convincingly relegated and now face a 46-game slog in the Championship.
Brentford battle Everton, Forest for Hutchinson?
According to the Daily Mail, Brentford have ramped up their efforts to secure the services of Ipswich star Hutchinson ahead of the new season.
The report claims that the West London Bees have submitted an initial bid of £35m for the highly-rated England Under-21 international.
It is understood that Hutchinson is open to the idea of a move to the Gtech Community Stadium, where Keith Andrews will take the reins following the departure of Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur.
With at least one of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa potentially leaving the club this summer, Brentford are keen to seal reinforcements in attack.
As well as the Bees, it is believed that Everton and Europa League-competing Nottingham Forest are interested in Hutchinson.
Payday for Ipswich
After enjoying a top campaign with Ipswich and netting a goal in the Under-21 European Championships final, Hutchinson’s stock is as high as ever.
Therefore, the Tractor Boys are set for a significant influx of transfer funds should the 21-year-old secure a Premier League switch.
Ipswich’s spending power this summer is set to dwarf that of the majority of their Championship rivals ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
