Newcastle Want ‘World-Class’ Liverpool Star in Shock Move After Ekitike Snub
Newcastle are eyeing a surprise summer move for Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, according to German newspaper Bild.
The Magpies have reportedly identified the Uruguayan forward as an alternative to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, who is now pushing to join the Premier League winners.
Newcastle, who saw two bids rejected by Frankfurt for Ekitike earlier this month, are said to have dropped out of the race as a result and already have other attackers on their radar.
The Magpies are still expected to bring in a new number nine alongside Anthony Elanga this summer, after the Sweden international joined on a long-term deal last week.

Seen as alternative to Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike
According to Bild, Newcastle are looking at both Nunez and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as potential alternatives to Ekitike, who was reportedly ‘not convinced’ about a summer move to St James’ Park.
The Frenchman is now said to be hopeful of joining Liverpool, who could soon make way for a new striker by offloading Nunez, as he has no future under Arne Slot at Anfield.
The ‘world-class’ Uruguayan forward struggled to impress despite being handed regular opportunities last season, scoring just seven goals and providing seven assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.
He is also believed to be a target for several Saudi Pro League clubs, while long-standing interest from Serie A champions Napoli has reportedly cooled in recent days.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Nunez has scored 40 goals in 143 appearances for Liverpool.
Newcastle are also looking to strengthen their defence ahead of the new season, with a three-man shortlist now identified for the centre-back role.
The Magpies are reportedly keeping tabs on Cesar Tarrega, Giorgio Scalvini and Nicolo Savona, and are said to be considering an approach for the latter.
