As well as Liberato Cacace, Wrexham are ‘in talks’ over a deal to sign one Ajax ace who has previously played for Cardiff City.

Wrexham are making moves in the summer transfer window, having already made two signings – bringing both Ryan Hardie and Danny Ward to The Racecourse Ground.

Following up on the arrivals of both Hardie and Ward, Wrexham are set to sign Liberato Cacace from Empoli, with Phil Parkinson keen to bolster his full-back options.

Wrexham boss Parkinson has been clear that he wants extra signings through the door in several positions in order to make his side fit for the Championship. As a result, they have turned their attention to one Ajax player who has already played in the second tier with Cardiff City.

Wrexham hold talks with Ajax defensive midfielder Sivert Mannsverk following Cardiff City spell

Ahead of the Championship season, Parkinson is keen to add a midfielder to the Wrexham squad, especially because of Ollie Rathbone’s unavailability.

Wrexham have been linked to Lewis O’Brien, but such discussions have since gone quiet, leaving the Red Dragons with the opportunity to pursue another target.

Next on their list, as reported by Pete O’Rourke, is Ajax defensive midfielder Sivert Mannsverk, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff City.

Wrexham are ‘in talks’ over a deal for the 23-year-old Norwegian, with the midfielder keen to notch extra game time due to his prospects of first-team football appearing to be fairly minimal at Dutch giants Ajax.

Sivert Mannsverk has already asked for one ‘challenge’ from Phil Parkinson

Sivert Mannsverk’s move to Cardiff City could significantly work in Wrexham’s favour, whether it is his familiarity with Wales, or the Championship and his desire to continue in the division.

The Norwegian became a crucial member of the relegated Cardiff side in the back-end of the 2024/25 Championship season, notching 12 starts in midfield.

Parkinson is keen to bring ambitious players into the fold, and Mannsverk fits that mould after what he said ahead of his move to Cardiff.

Per Wales Online, Mannsverk said: “This is a big challenge for me. That’s also why I wanted to take this challenge, because I like challenges. The Championship is a tough league, a robust league, so hopefully it fits my type of play.

“I would describe myself as a technical and tactical player. I also have a robustness in me, which you need to play in the Championship. I also want to give this team technical ability with my skills.”
