Sky Sports pundit confident West Brom will keep 21-year-old ace despite Everton and Leeds United interest

The England Under-21 star was close to departing in January

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has optimistically claimed that Tom Fellows will still be a part of the West Brom team for the opening game of the season against Blackburn Rovers at the start of August.

The England Under-21 international was the subject of rampant speculation linking him with a move away from Hawthorns in January after an 11-year-association with the club which started back in 2012 when he joined the club aged nine.

Birmingham World reported earlier this year that the main contributing factor which stopped David Moyes from bringing the youngster to Everton was the lack of time remaining in the window. However, the Toffees have time on their side this side, with a £15m move being mooted as opposed to the £12m that was initially quoted in January.

Don Goodman comments on Tom Fellows exit link

Ex-West Brom striker Don Goodman, who led the line for the Baggies between 1987 and 1991, told Football League World that spending another year with West Brom is what Fellows needs at this stage of his career after an excellent campaign last term.

He also adds that it would show a real statement of intent about promotion from the new West Brom ownership as Ryan Mason prepares for his first full season as manager.

Everton pursuit of Tom Fellows could impact Jack Harrison's Leeds United future

“I don’t know whether it’s my heart over my head, but I’d love to say yes,” Goodman said when quizzed on whether Fellows would be starring for West Brom next term.

He added: “West Bromwich Albion are a club that want to be challenging at the top end of the Championship, so selling undoubtedly one of your best players — who assisted 14 goals last season — would probably not be the statement of intent that West Brom fans would want from this new ownership.

“So I already said that he would personally be better served from another season in the Championship doing really well before maybe getting a shot in the Premier League. I don’t know whether it’s my heart ruling over my head, but I would love to think that he will start the season at West Brom.”

Why Everton are interested in Tom Fellows

Tom Fellows has been on the books at West Brom since joining the under-10s and made his debut in August 2021 under Valérien Ismaël after proving his class at reserve level. He enjoyed a productive loan spell at Crawley Town, where he racked up 38 appearances and despite failing to score showed enough promise to break into the first team picture at the Hawthorns.

Fellows registered four goals and three assists from 35 league games in 2023/24 but excelled last term and became one of the most creative footballers in the second-tier with 14 assists, putting him joint top of the assists charts alongside Portsmouth’s Josh Murphy.

The Express & Star claim Everton could return with fresh interest for Fellows while Leeds United after promotion under Daniel Farke are also showing interest.
